Pick Up Dog Poop
Because dogs can bring tremendous joy to our lives, four in ten American households own at least one dog. Along with the pleasure of owning a dog, of course, comes responsibility. And one of those responsibilities is to clean up after your pet.
Surveys by the Center for Watershed Protection have found that 41% of owners rarely or never pick up their dog's poop. Others will pick up poop when they are taking the dog on a walk, but not when they let the dog out into the backyard.
Dog feces contain about 0.7% nitrogen and 0.25% phosphate. Over time, poop on the ground will degrade and the nitrogen and phosphorus will be carried to the Bay. Picking up any animal poop you see, whether it is from dogs, cats, deer, geese, etc., is an easy way to help restore the Bay to health.
